4th of July Holiday Weekend
4th of July is one of our fav holidays! SoCal has a ton to offer when it comes to festivities for summer events. This year, we went to one of our family friend's pool party in their newly renovated backyard on the 4th.
Because we're not ballers and must plan our holidays on a real size, working family budget, we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to go our separate ways after the 4th to spend the long weekend at each of our in-laws houses, one at the beach and the other at the lake.
Julie's Life at the Lake:
You know that saying, "life is better at the lake"? It's 100% true! Getting out of the city and being in nature even just for one day is very refreshing.
Big Bear Lake is about an hour and a half from our house. Because it is a mountain town, the ride there can be a bit treacherous (in winter with rain or snow or when your 6 months pregnant like me). However, even with the many switch backs, I didn't feel sick at all.
In the mountains, we ate some snacks (my in-laws always have the best food), rode a razor, practiced archery with my nephew and then we went for a boat ride on the lake. Even in summer, the boat ride is pretty cold on the lake. Dinner then dessert, sitting around the fire pit and chatting about our baby girl who is on her way, makes me super grateful for all of the blessings I have in my life and very excited to add another girl to our family.❤️
Leslie's Good Times and Tan Lines at the Beach:
After the fabulous 4th BBQ, we headed south to our favorite spot, Carlsbad, CA, to feel sand between our toes & play in the waves.
When we arrived, we dropped our bags & headed straight to downtown for some shopping & grabbed a bite to eat. We checked out a new spot for us, The Barrel Republic. Its kid friendly, has an awesome menu & there are no bartenders or wait for your drink. You get a wrist band when you enter & at the beginning of your visit, they scan your wrist band & you pay by the ounce. My girls loved the Kambucha limeade too! It’s got a great beach atmosphere & we
loved it! I
After wards, we headed to the sand, played & watched all the surfers trying to catch wave! Then we did a repeat on Saturday, but after a long beach day, we ordered in and watched movies! We love that we got to hang with friends, spend time with family & really bond over this holiday weekend by playing games & relaxing! Definitely a well deserved break from reality! ❤️🇺🇸💙☀️👙🙌🏻
